Washington (January 18, 2017) – Raisa Sheynberg, a national security and economic policy expert and former director for trade and investment at the National Security Council, joined APCO Worldwide, announced Lisa Osborne Ross, managing director of APCO’s Washington, D.C. office. Based in D.C., Sheynberg will serve as a director in the firm’s Global Solutions Practice.
“We wanted Rae because of her proven track record shaping national security and economic policy,” said Ross. “Her experience advising senior government officials will be of tremendous value to our clients as we continue to help them navigate this increasingly fast-moving, interconnected and complex world. Sheynberg most recently served as director for international economic affairs at the National Security Council, where she advised senior White House officials including the National Security Advisor, the Director of the National Economic Council, and the White House Chief of Staff. Sheynberg helped develop and coordinate U.S. economic and trade policy initiatives, with a focus on the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement.

Prior to joining the National Security Council, Sheynberg served as a senior advisor in the Terrorism and Financial Intelligence office at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where she collaborated on shaping sanctions, including the Russia sanctions program, and covered a range of illicit finance issues all over the globe.
Before joining the Department of the Treasury, Sheynberg, who is fluent in Russian, conducted macroeconomic research and analysis in Moscow at Alfa Bank, Russia’s largest privately held financial institution.

Sheynberg holds a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from Lafayette College and master’s degrees from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. While at Georgetown, Sheynberg was a teaching assistant to former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
